As if making a sequel to Tron already wasn’t cool enough. (HOLY FUCK! have you seen this trailer yet?!!?) Let’s flashback to the original Tron in 1982. Even though *cough* Journey *cough* provided 2 songs the soundtrack/main score was done by none other then Wendy Carlos (who did such soundtracks as Clockwork Orange and The Shining) she composed most of the score using a Moog synthesizer (awesome) and there was mad controversy because Disney couldn’t handle her electro-BEATZ. See Wikipedia for the full beef. Oh, and if your some DJ/producer/hipster dabbling in electronic music production and you don’t know who Wendy Carlos is, you definitely need to get up with her, like, now.

Fast forward to now, Tron Legacy is set to be released in 3D sometime (probably summer) 2010. Who’s behind the boards for the soundtrack? The relatively unknown French duo Daft Punk. Apparently they’ve already composed 24 tracks for the film, when the director was asked why he decided to have Daft Punk do the film score, he replied,

“How could you not at least go to those guys?”

I agree in full, and, let’s be honest when Daft Punk performs live they look like they just got spit out of the Tronverse. Unfortunately there’s going to be a fucking Journey song in it again, which I will forgive as long as Disney doesn’t fuck with Daft Punk like they did Wendy Carlos and forced an orchestra on her… classically trained musicians are so overrated. Anyway, here’s the Tron Legacy theme for download, apparently it’s done with Cryda Luv. I have no idea who Cryda Luv is but I’m guessing he/she named themselves after the amazing french record label, Crydamoure, owned by Daft Punker Guy-Manuel. Or maybe it’s just an artist Daft Punk made up.

…is Jay Electronica. GASP! What no Weezy Baby!?!? No disrespect to Mr. Venereal Disease, Lil’ Wayne is very talented, but Jay Electronica is light years ahead of the whole rap game… maybe the whole world. Jay Electronica is an amazing artist, I can’t wait to hear what he does next. The best way to describe him sonically: samples & loops from Willy Wonka & Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, DJ Shadow-type ambiance, Saul Williams meets Nas lyrical wordplay, laidback J.Dilla & No ID beats, minimal sound effects create complex beatscapes.

If you haven’t heard of dude I can’t accurately describe what makes him so good, other then the way his music hits your ears, or more importantly his words. That’s why I’ve included a couple of his songs as well as this interview conducted by BBC jazz legend Gilles Peterson, which is awesome in itself. I was talking to $port about how just listening to this dude stutter: you can hear the passion in his voice. Gilles and Jay sound almost unprepared yet they flow together like their 2 old men somebody happened to record… the furthest thing from being some record label arranged puff piece. Jay Electronica is one of the surgeon’s performing surgery on Hip-Hop. Isn’t authenticity refreshing!?

Gilles Peterson – Interview w/ Jay Electronica (79.6MB, click to download instantly)

My favorite soundbyte is at 52:15 when Jay goes “Cheney shot A MAN in the face!” and you hear no response from Gilles, other then him cracking up. Also I completely cosign (and always have, for that matter) with the fact that Common’s Electric Circus was an amazing album that has always been slept on.

Eat it, Serato. Traktor is to Serato what Mac is to PC… cough, ahem-BETTER! I’ve been using Native Instruments Final Scratch (which evolved into Traktor Scratch Pro) now since it was version 1.0. Let me tell you, Interweb, Traktor is slept on! It’s just like back in the day when I was screwing around with my Macintosh Performa 6116CD, all my friends (even my parents friends) would hate on Macs “oh Apple’s gonna die, etc.” Well folks, I know how to pick em, okay?

If there’s one thing I’ll brag & boast about: it’s my ability to spot that trend way before the blogs/journos/MTVrs/pop culture. My foresight has been proved accurate in the past… Take notice that I only champion brands/products if I truly stand behind them.

Click here to view the embedded video.

There’s nothing wrong with Serato, I’m not trying to ragg on them, but Serato has become the beige-90s-PC of DJing. Everybody bought it cuz that’s what everyone else has… makes sense. Don’t get me wrong, Native Instruments has released some crummy products in the past but Traktor Pro is awesome at what it does. Oh and just in case you were wondering: sooner or later this whole DJ controller debate won’t mean shit because every DJ is gonna switch Ableton 8 [oooh, new warping engine].

Okay, my last post I was ranting and raving about how everyone listens to shit music. Well, lo and behold, out of nowhere my little brother drops this Facebook-Wall-Post* on me.

[Yes, I smudged my little brother's name out of the screen shot. I can gua-ran-tee that Christmas would be an even tense-er time if I were to: (a) accidentally set-in-motion the next episode of "To Catch a Predator" or (b) involve my brother in a RIAA internet piracy class action lawsuit.]

The fact that lil’bro likes the Pilooski remix makes me feel good, as lil’bro	usually listens to the mind-numbing stylings of a guy named Dave Matthews who owns his own band. Apparently Dave Matthews “owns” this band. I will also have you know that this band is mostly compromised of black people. C’mon, “Dave” stop the exploitation of black musicians.

Obviously, now you can see why I would much rather get lil’bro hip to the stylings of Frankie Valli and Pilooski. Two bad-ass musicians that are white like Dave, but they differ in some important ways:

get way more ass then Mr. Dave Matthews

even their biggest fans choose to pronounce the artist’s full name, unlike DMB fans who often refer to him as “Dave” as if they are personal friends with Mr. Matthews

they can dance, unlike Mr. Matthews who prefers a weird shoeless leg convulsion

most importantly neither Frankie Valli nor Pilooski has ever gone on world tours asserting they own a group of talented black musicians

Below you will find the track as well as a YouTube video made for the remix.

I’ve had this song for about a year now, however all this would have never been possible if it wasn’t for the BaioWulf dropping knowledge on me about this amazing remix.

Sick new track from Jay-Z & Santogold ‘Brooklyn Go Hard,’ better download now, I think I’m the only one that has the 320 kbps / Dirty version. Hmm, guess who produced it? Kanye f/ Santogold’s voice. It’s an ill song, but my feelings are mixed on this one. First, let me say that I genuinely liked the song ‘Swagga Like Us.’ In fact, it was probably the only good song on T.I.’s last album. (WTF happened to him?! He’s been on a steady decline ever since I’m Serious came out in ’01.)

Anyway, like I was saying, I liked ‘Swagga Like Us.’ I thought ‘hey, that’s cool Kanye figured out who M.I.A. is’ but these happy feelings don’t last long…. anybody remember that song ‘Stronger?!’ You might not be aware that in ‘Stronger’ Kanye in fact sampled some underground French house music dudes. I think their name was Daft…. uhm… Dunkz or something-OH YEAH! Punk! Daft Punk! That’s what they were called. Moving on….

Jay-Z & Santogold – Brooklyn Go Hard (prod. by Kanye West) 320 kbps / 9.2 MB

If you haven’t noticed, I’m doing my best to lay on a robust amount of sarcasm. Here’s my beef: Kanye samples Daft Punk & M.I.A. which is cool for like 2 seconds because I think maybe this will help broaden people’s terribly narrow taste in music, and, shit-who knows?! maybe this will set off a chain reaction of culture affluence so powerful that MTV goes back to showing music videos!

Unfortunately it doesn’t, and I find myself aggravated at all these drunk people singing along to the hook, without a clue in the world where it originated from. So, my beef isn’t with Kanye by any means. Shit, at least “Brooklyn Go Hard” has Santogold in the song. My beef is that nobody listens to music anymore to appreciate it, people listen to music so they can memorize the lyrics/dance associated with that song and have another vessel for “fitting in.”

I’m not trying to be one of those uber-elitist hipster snobs, because I hate them just as much as the “narrow-taste” people. Shit, maybe people will get really into Santogold. Maybe they’ll listen to such songs as “L.E.S. Artistes” and “Shove It” (the source sample of the song in this blog post) and maybe, just maybe, they’ll listen to the lyrics; and, start to re-evaluate the criteria being used to find their favorite songs ?!? Godspeed Hipsters and Conformists! Get out there, be different!

P.S. Just in case I didn’t properly convey my opinion on the song itself: I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jay & Santi’s respective flows are ripe, sitting effortlessly on-top of Kanye’s pristine production.

P.P.S. I didn’t account for the fact that maybe Kanye himself could balance this whole equation by continuing to sample really good music that’s only a year or so old. MGMT anyone!?

P.P.P.S. In case anybody was wondering, that’s my photoshop craftsmanship. SKILLLZZZZZ
