Brooklyn We Rant Hard

Sick new track from Jay-Z & Santogold ‘Brooklyn Go Hard,’ better download now, I think I’m the only one that has the 320 kbps / Dirty version. Hmm, guess who produced it? Kanye f/ Santogold’s voice. It’s an ill song, but my feelings are mixed on this one. First, let me say that I genuinely liked the song ‘Swagga Like Us.’ In fact, it was probably the only good song on T.I.’s last album. (WTF happened to him?! He’s been on a steady decline ever since I’m Serious came out in ‘01.)

Anyway, like I was saying, I liked ‘Swagga Like Us.’ I thought ‘hey, that’s cool Kanye figured out who M.I.A. is’ but these happy feelings don’t last long…. anybody remember that song ‘Stronger?!’ You might not be aware that in ‘Stronger’ Kanye in fact sampled some underground French house music dudes. I think their name was Daft…. uhm… Dunkz or something-OH YEAH! Punk! Daft Punk! That’s what they were called. Moving on….

Dubstep Thing… you wouldn’t understand

Really cool mini-documentary “pod” from Current.TV on Dubstep. This pod only skims the surface but it’s well done.

Justice Documentary

Well even though it was supposed to be out November 24th…. the documentary on Justice is now set to be released December 9th (salty!). I just got an advance/promo copy this week of the CD that will be included, which is a recording of them performing live in San Francisco. Sounds just like they always do live: fucking crazy good!

I saw them live last year, and this San Fran show sounds like a shining example of their live performance. Except I kind of cringe when “D.A.N.C.E.” first gets intro’d…. the screams sound like a Jonas Brothers concert or some shit. However, this is quickly redeemed when they play the MSTRKRFT remix - which in my opinion has never gotten old. Also, at the beginning of “Let There Be Light” they drop a sample of the remix of they did for Scenario Rock “Skitzo Dancer” which is another oldie but a goodie.

Hipster Halloween

After collaborating my network of music aficionados, we’ve gathered enough Halloween bangers to get your weekend fully fitted with a Halloween soundtrack. My personal favorite is the Morsy remix of 3 6 Mafia.

Weird Tapes

Okay, I know that recently most of my posts have been on this whole euro-electro-hipster tip but I promise that after this I will post some hood tracks as well. Google Analytics straight punk’d me like “dawg, peep this pie chart: your hood tracks are slackin! you can’t just post ONE Common track and be off the hook!” and Google Analytics is always right.
